Romania and the Republic of Moldova are two independent states with a special relationship which can be understood only by the people who live on the two sides of the Prut and these can keep it in the spirit of the wisdom of the forerunners, President Nicolae Timofti said in the official reception held at the Embassy of Romania in Chisinau on the occasion of the National Day of Romania, IPN reports.

“I welcome and appreciate the constant support provided by our brothers from over the Prut in achieving the European dream of the citizens of the Republic of Moldova. Romania is definitely the most devoted friend and advocate of our pro-European aspirations, including in periods of crisis,” stated Nicolae Timofti, adding that the Moldovan-Romanian dialogue must be devoted more attention.

Attending the event, Head of Parliament Andrian Candu said Romania is more than the neighboring state of Moldova. It is the country that offered continuous support in time. “I would remind those politicians, including the high-ranking ones, who now build their speeches on Romaniaphobia, that Romania was the first state that recognized Moldova’s independence. Romania was also the one that helped our country to become a fully-fledged member of international organizations and today Romania is the main advocate of the European integration and the whole process of rapprochement with the EU,” he stated.

Romania’s Ambassador to Moldova Daniel Ionita said the National Day of Romania is a special day that reflects the fulfillment of the desideratum of freedom, unity and national dignity of many generations. “Romania’s participation in World War I and the unification of all the Romanian territories inside the same generations are reference moments in our modem history. They also represents a living and incontestable proof of Romanians’ attachment to the values of freedom, social equality, mutual respect and tolerance, which our country continues to promote constantly and consistently by its foreign and domestic policy,” said the diplomat.

As to the Moldovan-Romanian relations, Daniel Ionita said Romania was the first country that recognized the independence, statehood and sovereignty of the Republic of Moldova and that opened an embassy in Chisinau. “The fact that the relations between Romania and the Republic of Moldova are special, of privileged strategic partnership for Moldova’s European integration, based on the common language, history and traditions, is a reality recognized by everyone. They are marked by special dynamism and there is no political, economic, cultural or social area where we would not have examples of success and good practices,” noted the ambassador.

He also said that the bilateral agenda between the two states is very dynamic and pragmatic and will remain so despite the electoral processes from both sides of the Prut.
