President Nicolae Timofti pleaded for the intensification of the contacts at parliamentary level in a meeting with the Chairman of the Romanian Senate Calin Popescu-Tariceanu and Deputy Chairman of the Chamber of Deputies Florin Iordache in Bucharest. The head of state paid an official visit to Romania on February 16-17, IPN reports.
According to the presidential press service, Nicolae Timofti voiced hope that the Republic of Moldova will find a way to overcome the political crisis related to the election of the head of state at end-March and will continue the reforms stipulated in the European agenda. He also said that the country will meet the conditions imposed by Romania for disbursing the first tranche of the loan of €150 million. For the purpose, the Parliament’s first meeting of the spring session will center on the vulnerability of the banking sector.
Calin Popescu-Tariceanu said Romania is interested in the stability and maintaining of the European course of the Republic of Moldova and the country should implement the overdue measures from the Association Agreement so as to regain the support and confidence of the external development partners, the International Monetary Fund and the European Commission.
For his part, Florin Iordache assured Nicolae Timofti that any project related to the Republic of Moldova will find support in Romania’s Parliament.
The officials also discussed energy interconnection projects from the common agenda and the possibility of launching a project to twin communities from both sides of the Prut River.
