“The people should not live permanently under the pressure of threats,” President Nicolae Timofti said in an ad-hoc briefing, when asked by the press to comment on the statements made recently by Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitri Rogozin, IPN reports, quoting a communiqué from the presidential press service.
“What an official of another state says concerns him. We have a European integration program that we will implement, regardless of the statements made by officials of other countries. The people must elect the rulers who will act so that the country does not depend on one energy source,” stated Nicolae Timofti.
He also said he will not make forecasts as regards the actions of other states. “Moldova has bilateral relations of friendship with Russia. We want to maintain good relations will all the countries. The actions of the Moldovan authorities are aimed at improving the living standards, not against other countries,” said the head of state.
During a visit to Chisinau, Dmitri Rogozin said the energy problem is important, especially when the winter approaches. He voiced hope thatMoldova will not remain without gas when winter comes. “I hope you will not freeze in winter,” he stated.
