The parliamentary coalition is to be formalized, not only announced, while the appointment of persons suspected of acts of corruption to posts runs counter to the rule of law principles. The issue was discussed by President Nicolae Timofti in the consultations held with representatives of the PDM, PL, PLDM and of the Social-Democratic Platform, who announced the constitution of a parliamentary majority, IPN reports, quoting the presidential press service.

According to the head of state, the parliamentary coalition must be formalized and must indicate the MPs who form part of it, by specifying the readiness to support a particular candidate for Prime Minister and by officially notifying the President of the Republic of Moldova.

President Timofti reiterated that the parliamentary groups and parties, when choosing a candidate for premiership, must take into account the Constitutional Court’s decision of April 22, 2013, according to which any political mandate must be based on high integrity standards, while the appointment of persons suspected of not having integrity is against the rule of law principles.

In the consultations held on January 11, the leader of the PDM Marian Lupu informed the head of state about the formation of a parliamentary coalition that consists of 56 MPs. Within two days, the coalition will propose a candidate for Prime Minister to the head of state. The statement on the formation of a parliamentary majority was signed by the parliamentary groups of the PDM and PL and by representatives of the Social-Democratic Platform and a group of MPs of the PLDM.
