President Nicolae Timofti is optimistic about the future of the Moldovan-Romanian relations, regales of the outcome of the presidential elections in Romania, IPN reports.

In an interview for the news program “Telejurnal Moldova” of the Romanian Television, Nicolae Timofti said that no matter who takes power in Romania, the attitude towards Moldova will not change in Romania as all those who come to power want Moldova to come closer to Romania.

The head of state pleaded for maintaining the Moldovan-Romanian relations as close as possible. “I know that all those who come to power want Moldova to be closer to Romania so that we promote the same ideas and do everything possible for the people on both sides of the Prut to enjoy high living standards and know their identity. This is the essence of our relations. No matter who wins the elections in Romania, the relations with Moldova will be close,” he stated.

As to the parliamentary elections that will take place in Moldova, the head of state voiced hope that the elections will be won by the parties of the ruling pro-European coalition. “I want the ruling pro-European parties to remain in power so that we can continue our course. I don’t think that great, radical changes will occur in Moldova and Romania after the elections because the traditions, cultural and historical backgrounds lying at the basis cannot change the essence of things. The Moldovan citizens should first of all understand what being a citizen of the EU means. All the citizens want to live better and many of them realize that the future is brighter than the past,” said Nicolae Timofti.

He also referred to the geopolitical situation, saying it is dangerous. “There are forces that pursue certain goals in this area. Moldova cannot control the situation by itself. We see what Ukraine have being going through. I hope that Russia’s administration will correctly assess the situation it caused, especially in Europe, and will do its utmost to peacefully remedy it,” stated the Moldovan President.

On November 1, 2014, the Romanian Television launched the news program “Telejurnal Moldova”, which will be broadcast daily, from Monday through Friday, at 7pm.
