Moldova reached the point when it is close to achieving the most important objective – the association to the European Union. The Association Agreement contains the legal framework and preconditions needed for cooperating with the prosperous and stable European Union, President Nicolae Timofti said in the July 2 sitting of Parliament, where the Association Agreement with the EU, signed on June 27, is to be ratified, IPN reports.
The head of state noted that by this accord Moldova will carry out the tasks of fighting corruption, modernizing the economy, developing infrastructure, improving the public services, etc. The ratification of the Association Agreement with the EU will confirm that Moldova is a country with European vocation.
Nicolae Timofti stated that it wasn’t easy to reach this solemn moment full of satisfaction, but it is important that the political class and society showed unity today. It would be good if the European integration generated fewer political adversities. “The people of Moldova deserve living by their will and creed, not by the scenarios written by others,” he stated.
According to the head of state, after the accord is ratified, a responsible period for implementing it will follow. “I’m convinced that we will succeed. We are on the good path and will not stop at half way. Long live Moldova in the EU!” said Nicolae Timofti.
A minimum of 51 votes are needed for the Association Agreement with the European Union to be ratified.
