President Nicolae Timofti believes that there will be peace in the country despite the tense situation in the region. He made related statements after the April 7 meeting of the Supreme Security Council, IPN reports.
“We discussed the regional situation and the impact of the signing of the Association Agreement with the EU on Moldova. I think there will be peace in the country. We must implement the plan of action that leads to the signing of the accord. I consider that we must be ready to deal with any difficulties that can appear meanwhile,” said the head of state.
The new Minister of Defense Valeriu Troenco told the journalists that he was instructed to increase vigilance in the army and to check the equipment. “Things in the military system must be in order so that we are geared up. The regional situation is difficult. Many Ukrainian towns face destabilization and we do not rule out that these are provocations, which we must not ignore,” he stated.
Valeriu Troenco also said that the Moldovan army is well-equipped and has anti-tank and anti-infantry defense systems of a high quality. The financing of the army leaves much to be desired and there are problems that must be solved as soon as possible.
