President Nicolae Timofti is rising slowly yet surely in the top-50 of the most influential politicians. In Politicon's top-50 ranking for June presented on Friday, the President was ranked 6th, two positions higher than last month. “This slow rise of the President tells us that he got into the role”, stated Anatol Taranu, head of the Institute of Analysis and Political Consultancy Politicon. Further, Anatol Taranu remarked that few Communists remained in the list, which spoke of the political decline of the Communists’ Party. The expert said that Vladimir Voronin was the only PCRM member among the top 10 politicians, which proves that PCRM doesn’t have a replacement for him. “The Communists don’t really have reserves of influential people and this might be a big problem for the party. Voronin doesn’t have anyone to replace him”, explained Anatol Taranu. Politicon vice director Ion Tabarta announced the rankings of the other politicians: Prime Minister Vlad Filat stays on top, followed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Iurie Leanca. Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca dropped a position in favor of the Minister and occupies the third place. Speaker Marian Lupu’s rating is continue to drop as he was ranked 4th. Mihai Ghimpu stepped up a place and was ranked 5th. President Timofti occupied the 6th position, followed by the First Deputy Speaker Vlad Plahotniuc, who dropped two positions. The 8th place is occupied by the Communist leader, who lost a position. The 9th and 10th places are held by the leader of the Democrats’ parliamentary group Dumitru Diacov and the leader of the Liberal-Democrats' group Valeriu Strelet, respectively. The most spectacular fall in the rankings was that of former Communist Vadim Misin, who was 9th last month and fell to 31st this month. The leader of the Socialists’ Party Igor Dodon dropped as well. Meanwhile, the head of the Democratic Action Party Mihai Godea missed Politicon’s top 50 for the first time. The new Minister of the Interior Dorin Recean and the new Minister of Education Maia Sandu made it the top 50. The monthly ranking of the most influential politicians is developed by 39 experts, who rank politicians according to their influence upon the major political decisions in the country, according to their popularity and presence in the media.
