The Moldovan citizens must realize the necessity of continuing the European course and the next parliamentary elections are very important in this respect, said President Nicolae Timofti, calling on the voters to support the pro-European forces, IPN reports.
“The countries where the voters were consistent and chose the pro-European forces developed and have a powerful economy. Today they are members of the EU and NATO. They are sure about their national security, have high living standards and achieve results after they chose the European values,” Nicolae Timofti said in an interview for Radio Moldova.
According to the head of state, the government must convince the people to vote for the political forces that will promote the country’s European course. The investments in infrastructure and the initiatives to build and rebuilt roads will continue if the people vote for the implementation of reforms.
Nicolae Timofti stated that the actions taken in Gagauzia do not influence the dialogue with the EU. The referendums held at the start of February there are illegal, being financed from outside the country. “I’m sure that the population of Gagauzia was misled by forces from inside and outside. The law enforcement bodies will make sure that these persons answer for their acts,” he said.
As to the justice sector reform, the head of state said measures are being taken to increase the independence of justice and remove the abuses. The number of cases lost by Moldova at the ECHR had decreased. However, the reformation pace is not the expected one and not all the people feel the changes.
The President regrets the fact that not all the citizens are able to work in the country. Investments and stability, order and discipline are needed for creating workplaces in the country. Reforms are thus promoted so that the investors are sure that their businesses are protected and supported.
