President Nicolae Timofti on July 7 was awarded the title of Doctor Honoris Causa of the Suceava University “Stefan cel Mare”, where he had a meeting with his Romanian counterpart Klaus Iohannis. The head of state was awarded for special contribution to promoting the European integration course of Moldova and to developing the relations between Moldova and Romania and for the special attention devoted by the presidential institution to education and the formation of the young generation, IPN reports.
In the award ceremony, the head of state said he regards this title as an expression of those old ties kept in hearts despite the administrative borders set abusively over the common past. “Moldova is lucky to have near Romania, which is an EU member state and which strengthens its position of important pillar of stability and security in this region. Romania has always supported Moldova unconditionally in its aspirations for modernization and European integration,” said Nicolae Timofti.
Klaus Iohannis noted that the title of Doctor Honoris Causa was awarded to Nicolae Timofti in recognition of his professional and political merits. “Moldova has a great chance that we didn’t have when we joined the EU. This chance is called Romania, which is a fully-fledged member of the EU and is now the most redoubtable supporter of Moldova in the European integration process,” he stated.
Nicolae Timofti is paying a working visit to Suceava, where the two heads of state had discussions on the bilateral relations.
