The State University of Medicine and Pharmaceutics “Nicolae Testemitanu” on October 9 inaugurated an alley of 34 busts of personalities from the areas of medicine and pharmaceutics, who contributed to developing the University and the national health system. The event forms part of the activities held to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the institution’s foundation, IPN reports.
Among the doctors whose busts were placed on the alley are Nicolae Anestiadi, Toma Ciorba, Leonid Cobaleanschi, Nicolae Testemitanu, and Natalia Gheorghiu. “The University of Medicine and Pharmaceutics celebrates 70 years of activity. This is a nice occasion for making an imaginary trip into the history of the events that happened during the seven decades. These doctors made an indisputable contribution to the formation of the over 40,000 doctors and pharmacists, to the development of the Moldovan medical science and to the provision of specialized medical services to the population,” said the University’s rector Ion Ababii.
The Alley of Illustrious Scientists and Doctors represents a piece of the cultural heritage and a visiting card of the University and of the municipality of Chisinau. “We, those who promote this heritage, pledge to take care of the monuments you leave and to honor those who made themselves remarked in health - people who created a national system,” said Minister of Health Ruxanda Glavan.
“I would like each medical institution in Moldova to look like this complex and to benefit from the same support as the one enjoyed by the University of Medicine and Pharmaceutics,” said the mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca.
The inauguration of the alley is the last event of the series of activities dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the foundation of the State University of Medicine and Pharmaceutics “Nicolae Testemitanu”.
