At his third participation in the Olympics, wrestler Nicolae Ceban failed again to get on the podium. The 30 year old was defeated 2-5 in his first fight by Romania’s Albert Saritov, who went on to win the bronze medal, IPN reports.

Saritov was born in Chechnya, but has represented Romania since 2015 at the suggestion of former European champion Anatol Guidea, coach of the Romanian free wrestling team. Guidea was born in Moldova, but won the gold medal for Bulgaria at the European Championships in 2003.

On the last day of the Olympics in Rio, Moldova was also represented by Roman Prodius, who finished 105th out of 155 runners in the marathon, reaching the finish line in 2 hours 27 minutes and one second. The marathon was won by Eliud Kipchoge from Kenya, with a result of 2h 8m 44s.

The medal charts are topped by the USA, with 46 gold medals, 37 silver and 38 bronze, followed by the Great Britain (27-23-17) and China (26-18-26). Moldova is ranked 78th, thanks to a bronze medal won by canoeist Serghei Tarnovschi, but it might be revoked on doping suspicions.
