NIA head investigated for abuse of office

The head of the National Integrity Authority Rodica Antoci and another female employee of the institution are investigated for abuse of office. Following searches conducted today, the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office said the two were issued with summons to appear for questioning on February 1, IPN reports.

The two employees are suspected of causing damage of 126,500 lei to the public institution. In one episode, they paid car painting services to the value of over 29,000 lei even if the contract between the Authority and and the business entity didn’t cover such services. In another case, a contracted business entity repaired and installed doors in the NIA’s building. Later, as they didn’t like the doors, they illegally contracted another company from which they bought another seven doors to the value of 97,000 lei.

As a result of the searches carried out today, there were seized mobile phones, computers, documents, journals and notes. No persons were arrested.

The NIA earlier said the searches today were carried out following information that appeared in the public sphere.
