The difference of over 600,000 lei between the assets and incomes earned by Democratic MP Dumitru Diacoa and his wife identified by the National Integrity Authority will not be confiscated. The Chisinau City Appeals Court rejected the NIA’s appeal as groundless and upheld the decision of the first court, IPN reports.
The Centru branch of the Chisnau City Court on March 24, 2021 rejected the NIA representative’s request to confiscate the money from the bank accounts opened in the name of Dumitru Diacov and his wife, in the amount of 603,728, arguing the Authority didn’t provide justificatory evidence in favor of such a move.
The Chisinau City Appeals Court held that the decision of the common law court is reasonable and legal, while the arguments invoked in the appeal are unfounded.
The National Integrity Authority (NIA) ascertained a difference of over 600,000 lei between the assets and incomes earned by Democratic MP Dumitru Diacoa and his wife in 2014-2019. The NIA sent the case to court so that the procedure for confiscating the ill-gotten gains could be launched. According to the NIA, even if the MP benefitted from the right to present his viewpoint during the control procedure, he justified only a part of the owned property.
