NGOs of Moldova, Ukraine and Georgia submit symbolic applications for membership to EU

Representatives of Moldovan, Ukrainian and Georgian civil society transmitted symbolic applications for membership in the EU at the second Eastern Partnership Civil Society Conference that took place in Riga on May 21, IPN reports.

The Partnership and Cooperation Agreement between the European Union and its Member States, on the one hand, and the Republic of Moldova, on the other hand, is taken as basis for accepting Moldova into the European family.

The application says that the Republic of Moldova as a European country, shares a common history and common values with the Member States of the European Union, and is committed to implementing and promoting those values, which for the Republic of Moldova inspire its European choice.

The civil society representatives also remind about Moldova’s commitment to strengthen respect for fundamental freedoms, human rights, including the rights of persons belonging to minorities, democratic principles, the rule of law, and good governance.

The application is submitted in the name of Moldovan citizens who strive for a democratic and European Republic of Moldova, whole and free.

The Eastern Partnership Civil Society Conference in Riga forms part of the events held on the occasion of the EaP Summit of May 21-22.
