A minor girl from a village in Călărași district, according to police data, was brutally beaten by a young man who is around 20 years old. The incident was condemned by organizations that advocate for the prevention and that combat violence against women and girls. The incident was video recorded by a witness, while the footage was distributed online on social networks.

Violeta Andriuța, Women's Law Center lawyer, said that such cases are condemnable and that the actions of the aggressor are more than abusive. In the lawyer's opinion, even if the child had committed the alleged robbery, the young man only had the right to call the police, without resorting to criminal actions. Violeta Andriuţa is of the opinion that the actions of the young man qualify as hooliganism and vigilante justice.

The lawyer said that it is regrettable that the people who witnessed this act of violence did not intervene and did not notify the police. The silver lining is that this case became publicly known and that the police took note of it. Additionally, the Women's Law Center is willing to provide psychological, legal and social assistance to the victim if she accepts.

Daniela Misail-Nichitin, Director of the Women Program of the International Center "La Strada", said that the incident was abominable. It was abominable because an adult applied violence, while another adult, who could have intervened, witnessed the scene and accepted violence as a legitimate way to punish theft. Worst of all, according to Daniela Misail-Nichitin, is the fact that a child witnessed these violent actions.

The General Police Inspectorate took note of this case. According to preliminary information, the incident took place in a settlement in Călărași district. According to the police, measures are being taken in order to establish the whereabouts of the involved parties. The child will receive psychological counseling and will be subject to forensic examination in order to determine the severity of the bodily injuries, while the alleged aggressor will be held accountable.
