Some of the politicians do not want the legal system to be reformed, while others want it to be implemented, but not while they are in power. This shows that the politicians do not have character and political will to change the state of affairs in this area. Related statements were made by the head of the Center for Public Authorities Monitoring and Initiatives Ion Dron, Info-Prim Neo reports. “The reform of justice is very important for our society. But the political players involved in this process do not make effort to achieve this objective. The failures derive from the fact that the legislative, the executive and the judiciary cannot agree on how the legal system should be reformed,” Ion Dron said in a news conference. The Center for Public Authorities Monitoring and Initiatives calls on the Head of Parliament Marian Lupu, Prime Minister Vlad Filat and president of the Supreme Council of Magistrates Nicolae Timofti to launch debates and formulate and sign a common document titled “Pact for Justice in Moldova”. Such a document would spare civil society from looking for an answer to the question “Who is to blame for the failure of the reforms in the legal system?” said Ion Dron. “Justice needs long-term political support in order to be able to meet the social needs. Civil society needs a legal system that does not forgive and does not forget,” stressed Ion Dron. The leader of the NGO also said that confidence in the legal system is close to reaching the lowest level, while the disrespect for the judges already reached alarming levels. Thus, the signing of such a document would be a prof that the legal system is ready to meet the society's needs trough effective internal reforms. According to Ion Dron, if the three powers ignore this call, the NGO will disseminate the idea that the reform in justice is delayed as such a state of affairs suits the authorities. The Center for Public Authorities Monitoring and Initiatives was registered with the Ministry of Justice on June 21, 2010. It conducts researches and formulates policies aimed at improving the performance of the authorities in the legal system, security and human freedoms.
