The Public Association "Center for Initiatives and Monitoring of Public Authorities" will send a request to the Parliament, the government and the Superior Council of Magistrates, asking them to sign a "justice pact for the Republic of Moldova". The announcement was made at a press conference at IPN, by lawyer Ion Dron, president of the association.

"Justice reform needs long-term political support. The crisis in the Moldovan justice system is caused exclusively by the political class that ruled over the course of the last 20 years”, said Ion Dron.

The lawyer argues that the previous government did not want to change the justice system, while the current ruling coalition wants to perform reforms which benefit itself. "Today, as never before, the state authorities need to perform joint actions that aim at solving in a rational and efficient way the problems related to justice reform, while keeping the interest of the citizen of Moldova in mind", said the lawyer.

Ion Dron considers that political will, clear vision and administrative capacities are the three criteria needed for effective justice reform. "While the political will is the dominant criteria, these conditions cannot be met separately", said Ion Dron.

"The association I lead will send to the Parliament, the government and the Superior Council of Magistrates a request asking for the organization of public consultations and debates with civil society, in order to draft a justice pact. We will request the three branches of government to sign this document, which will represent the legal form of a justice reform promise”, said Ion Dron.

According to the lawyer, the signing of such a pact is the current government's legal commitment towards the removal of political influence over the judicial branch. Additionally, Ion Dron believes that such a document would guarantee that the principle of separation of state powers can become a reality in the shortest time in Moldova.
