The public association “Moldova mea” (“My Moldova”) considers that legal action should be taken over the invalidation by Parliament of the presidential elections of November 18. The NGO’s representatives say they will wait for an answer from the Prosecutor’s Office within the term stipulated by the law. If no answer is provided, they will go to court, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The association’s head Fiodor Ghelici said the MPs intentionally postpone the election of the head of state so as to remain in power at all costs. “They are wrong if they think that we are playing. We will not give up until the Prosecutor’s Office examines our demand,” he stated.
According to Fiodor Ghelici, Moldova is being scoffed at because it is unable to elect its President. The NGO intends to consult the European Parliament and the Venice Commission about the created situation.
One of the association’s members Igor Caldare said the absence of candidates for the presidency is not a reason for invalidating the elections. “Even if the law does not envision such a situation, we consider that the ordinary elections failed and the legislative body was to set the date of new presidential elections,” said Igor Caldare.
Another member of the NGO, Alexandru Iudin said the most important body of the state is blocked. “Mature people to whom we gave our votes cannot reach a compromise to overcome the crisis. We see that the MPs like sitting in Parliament as they only fill their pockets and build their future there,” he stated.
Felix Mihailean, who also forms part of the association, said that all the democratic principles are being violated. “The Moldovan people are too patient, but their patience is not limitless. We hope we will have a good ending as the people’s patience is wearing thin,” he said.
The representatives of the association “Moldova mea” said they will wait for an answer from the Prosecutor’s Office until the end of this year.
