The National Council of Moldovan Non-Governmental Organizations (the NGO Council) sends a letter to the Justice Ministry and the Tax Inspectorate expressing its concern about the requests of those institutions addressed to a series of NGOs, Info-Prim Neo reports. In its letters, the Justice Ministry hints that some NGOs would have been the organizers of the April 7 events, facts which are not true, the NGO Council finds. It is also concerned about the Tax Inspectorate's moves, which sent, largely to the same organizations, letters demanding to present financial documents on their activity in 2008-2009, within short terms. “We notice that those requests touch on some of the most active NGOs from Moldova, most of which were directly involved in monitoring the parliamentary elections and the post-election events,” reads the appeal. The NGO Council recommends a series of actions to do away with the tension and concerns: starting a dialogue between the state structures and the NGOs to elucidate the position of the latter ones; publishing the full list of the organizations subjected to fiscal checkups and the ones having received letters from the Justice Ministry. The NGO Council reiterates its position made public on April 8, through which it encourages the freedom of peaceful assemblies and condemns the violent actions of April 7. The NGO Council was elected by the NGO Forum held in December 2008, which was attended by over 100 representatives of over 1,000 Moldovan non-governmental organizations.
