Migrants and their families in Chisinau Municipality will now have access to the services of NEXUS Center, opened today, December 18, on the occasion of the International Migrants Day. The initiative is financed by the EU and co-financed by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation and is meant to support and streamline circular migration. The center in Chisinau is the fourth after those opened since February in Edinet, Ungheni and Cahul, IPN reports.

During the opening ceremony in Chisinau, Deputy Mayor Nistor Grozavu stressed the importance of the event and that it confirmed once again the European orientation of local authorities. According to him, this is yet another case when European partners support the Moldovan authorities when the latter face problems in various fields.

Ulrike Brüderle, deputy director of the implementing agency IASCI and financial manager of NEXUS Moldova, said that the center in Chisinau is the final piece in the network that will serve Moldovan migrants. “I'm pleased every time I enter one of the centers we've opened here in Moldova”, said Brüderle. He added that the experiences so far have been positive and people like to see that changes for the better can be accomplished.

Radu Dani, project coordinator at the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, said that NEXUS Moldova is an ambitious and innovative project meant to help ordinary citizens. “We are happy to support this project and we expect it to help improve the quality of life for ordinary citizens and this will certainly happen”, said Dani.

NEXUS Moldova was launched on December 15, 2012. The project is implemented by a consortium led by IASCI and is financed by the European Union within the Thematic Programme of Cooperation with Third Countries in the Areas of Migration and Asylum, and co-financed by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation.
