In the next round of the Transnistrian conflict settlements talks in the 5+2 format next week, the sides will discuss the internal checkpoints that are to be set up along the Nistru River. The Special Representative of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office for Conflicts Ambassador Andrii Deshchytsia, who is in Moldova on a two-day visit, voiced hope that the sides will reach compromises on this initiative of Chisinau that worries Tiraspol, IPN reports.
In a press briefing in Chisinau, Andrii Deshchytsia said that Tiraspol is concerned that these checkpoints will limit the movement of the Transnistrians. ”We hope that these procedures will not hinder the free movement. We will make everything possible for these concerns to be heard before the implementation of the new rules,” he stated.
In Chisinau, the Ambassador met with Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Natalia Gherman and the chief negotiator on behalf of Moldova Eugen Carpov. In Tiraspol, he had a meeting with the Transnistrian leader Yevgeny Shevchuk and the chief negotiator on behalf of Transnistria Nina Shtanski.
The next round of the talks in the 5+2 format will take place in Brussels on October 3.
