The new President of Moldova Nicolae Timofti on March 16 told the MPs that together they must promote reforms and ensure the supremacy of the law in Moldova, which should be implemented correctly and uniformly, Info-Prim Neo reports. “This broad process of reforming the justice sector that you launched together with the Government of Moldova must be continued and completed. An independent legal system is the key to success in developing the country. It ensures investments, jobs, the development of the business sector, combating of corruption and increases people’s confidence in the state bodies and the country’s future,” said Nicolae Timofti. According to him, the depoliticization of the law enforcement bodies is a mandatory condition for the continuous development of Moldova. “The law enforcement bodies, the bodies regulating the entrepreneurial activity and the supervision and inspection bodies of the central and local public administration are the weak points that make us vulnerable to such negative phenomena as corruption,” stated Nicolae Timofti. He also said that he is aware that Moldova is a poor country. “The combating of poverty for me is a serious challenge. International statistics show that during the last few years Moldova managed to diminish the poverty rate by several percentage points. I think that not poverty generates the serious problems faced by our country. In fact, the non-solving of such problems as corruption, weak economy and the lack of workplaces generate poverty,” said Nicolae Timofti. He stressed that the efficient and sustainable reforms are implemented in conditions of political stability and he, as head of state, aims to ensure the necessary stability and the support needed to successfully implement the reforms designed to improve the people’s lives.
