A new volume that will contain the journalism manuscripts and parliamentary discourses of the late Gheorghe Ghimpu will be published by this yearend. The announcement was made at the symposium themed “Anticommunist Fight in Defending the National Values Promoted by Gheorghe Ghimpu as European Values” that was held in Chisinau on July 26. The symposium was organised to celebrate the 70th birth anniversary of the founder of the National Liberation Movement, chairman of the Association of Victims of the Communist Occupation Regime and of the war veterans of the Romanian army, founder and president of the National Romanian Party. Gheorghe Ghimpu was a journalist, MP in the first Moldovan Parliament (1990-1994). He was held as political detainee for promoting pro-Romanian values. His death in 2000 as a result of a traffic accident, not clarified yet, is blamed on the communist regime that is used to applying physical harassment. “Gheorghe Ghimpu left a heritage for us: the love for people, for language, for everything that is Romanian. The following words are written on his headstone “We will save ourselves only by returning to Romania and by reunifying the Romanian people,” said the president of the Liberal Party Mihai Ghimpu. In the anticommunist fight, the promoters of pro-Romanian values from Moldova have great faith in the incumbent Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca. “He is blood of Gheorghe Ghimpu’s blood and now, for the first time in 40 years, in Bessarabia’s history, we have a young man free from the Soviet school, who holds a responsible position in this state. By accepting to be near us in the fight for the national cause, you assumed a great responsibility and I am sure that you acknowledge this,” Mihai Ghimpu said. Dorin Chirtoaca appealed to his colleagues from the Liberal Party, to the young people from all the political organisations and to the whole society, to reflect once again on what they have to do to fortify the anticommunist fight in the context of the European integration. “The totalitarian communist regime, by the metamorphosis through which it has passed since 1989, tries now to infiltrate into the European area, and we, the present ones, have the duty to continue the anticommunist fight and hinder the totalitarian communist regime from finding its place in the European area, so that we could regain out identity and unity within the EU.” “The totalitarian communist regime committed serious crimes towards millions of people, remaining in the history as the cruellest totalitarian regime. Gheorghe Ghimpu raised the issue of taking legal action against communism at international level and this idea must be brought to an end”, Chirtoaca underlined. Many of those that share the patriotic and Romanian ideals delivered speeches at the symposium. Among them were the brother of Gheorghe Ghimpu - poet Simion Ghimpu, the writers Ion Hadarca and Vladimir Besleaga, former Minister of Culture and Religions Ion Ungureanu and others. There was shown a documentary about the live and activity of Gheorghe Ghimpu. Ion Hadarca said that by the end of this year, the journalism manuscripts and parliamentary discourses of Gheorghe Ghimpu will be compiled into a new volume. The symposium took place at the Public Library “Onisifor Ghibu”. It was organised the fourth year in a row.
