Parliament named judge Tatiana Vieru as vice president of the Supreme Court of Justice and chairwoman of the Civic, Commercial and Administrative Claims Board for a four-year term, IPN reports.

Also on December 23, the MPs appointed judge Valentina Clevady as deputy chairwoman of the Court’s Civic, Commercial and Administrative Claims Board for a four-year term.

While examining the draft decisions, Liberal MP Lilian Carp asked for information about the possible involvement of the two candidates in cases lost at the ECHR and if disciplinary proceedings weren’t instituted against these.

After a pause during which the Parliament’s legal commission for appointments and immunities had a meeting, the commission’s head Raisa Apolschii said the two judges passed sentences in cases in which the state was later found guilty by the ECHR, but this happened because of the imperfection of the legislation and these shortcomings were already removed. As to disciplinary proceedings, there are relevant applications, not yet decisions.

Liberal-Democratic MP Tudor Deliu asked to postpone the examination of the issue so that the MPs could inform themselves additionally about the candidates, but his proposal was rejected.

The decisions take effect when they are adopted.
