A pilot project to serve food to children and students of education institutions will be implemented in Strășeni district. The new model will be based on the externalization of these services, IPN reports.
For the purpose, the cooking facilities, canteens and storerooms for keeping products will be merged at the level of communities and will be transferred to the business entities from which alimentation services will be contracted. This way the costs will be optimized and the quality of the provided services will improve.
The business entity will renovate and outfit the cooking and storage facilities and will train and remunerate the personnel.
The local public authorities will connect the buildings to the water supply and sewerage services and to the gas network and will build the roofs.
The contracts with the economic operator could be signed for a period of one year to five years.
Prime Minister Pavel Filip voiced hope that this pilot-project will be an example for the externalization of alimentation services in education institutions all over Moldova. “This project, on the one hand, will bring savings and, the other hand, will ensure quality when it is about the feeding of children in the national education institutions,” stated the Premier.
The new model will offer the students of secondary schools and lyceums the possibility of having warm meals at school for money. Currently, all the first-fourth graders - 139 637 children – eat free of charge at school. The state also pays two thirds of the daily food ration for 149 216 children attending kindergartens and crèches.
