New trucks for collecting solid waste in northern Moldova

The solid waste in Floresti, Soldanesti and Rezina and in another 35 neighboring communities will be collected and transported by two trucks purchased with the financial assistance of the Government of Germany within a regional development project to improve the solid waste management system in Floresti district. The vehicles cost €110,000, IPN reports, quoting a press release of the Ministry of Regional Development and Construction.

In the ceremony to hand over the trucks to the cleanup company of Floresti, Minister of Regional Development and Construction Vasile Batca said about 77,000 inhabitants of the micro-region will benefit from sanitation services of a high quality. The vehicles have a capacity of 7 cubic meters each. Until now the waste was collected manually and transported to the waste dump by tractors.

In the immediate period, the project will be extended to cover the needs of about 200,000 inhabitants of Floresti, Soldanesti and Rezina districts.

According to the director of the North Regional Development Agency Ion Bodrug, 11 mayor’s offices of Falesti district have founded a joint stock company to manage solid waste. The project will help cut the costs incurred by the cleanup company and will offer high quality services for 12 mayor’s offices of Floresti, 19 mayor’s offices of Soldanesti and four mayor’s offices of Rezina.
