Parents have called almost daily for consultancy during the first three months of the launch of the pediatric toxicology information service TOXAPEL. According to the call center’s head Ana Oglinda, most of the phone calls were made by parents whose children poisoned themselves with drugs and chemicals.

Ana Oglinda said that in most of the cases of poisoning, the first minutes are essential for providing assistance. That’s why TOXAPEL works round the clock and can be contacted on 022 555-220 from any telephone.

TOXAPEL was created in 2013 to provide consultancy to parents as to how to give first aid before the arrival of the ambulance and to medical staff in need of advice. Ana Oglinda said the doctors examine one-five poisoned children daily.

TOXAPEL is housed by the Mother and Child Institute, the pediatric reanimatology and toxicology section. The service is the result of the effort of consultants of the Moldovan-Swiss project REPEMOL and of the Ministry of Health and specialists of the Bucharest Children’s Clinical Emergency Hospital “Grigore Alexandrescu”.

TOXAPEL can be contacted from the fixed-line phone or the mobile phone from any settlement.
