The National Food Safety Agency will implement modern equipment that enables to detect 250 active substances of compounds of agricultural resides and nitrates in agrifood products, IPN reports.

Ion Codreanu, head of the Vegetal Food Producing Units Supervision Division, told a news conference that the national producers can no longer sell agricultural products without safety certificates. If they do not comply with the rules, they will bear responsibility for the negative effects that the agrifood products treated with nitrates and pesticides can have. The agricultural producers must have a self-control system when they spray the fruit and vegetables and strictly obey the indicated doses.

Ion Codreanu also said that from 2013 not only the agricultural producers must have their agrifood products examined, but also the domestic farmers. Thus, every producer must take samples of their products to an accredited laboratory for examination. The safety certificate is issued by the Agency’s district branch based on the lab results. The imposed rules coincide with the European rules and are aimed at making the national producers more responsible.

According to Ion Codreanu, Moldova encounters a serious problem in destroying the agricultural products that turned out to be dangerous for health. Such products cannot be buried as they pollute the soil. There is only one plant burning these products in Moldova.
