Comrat Municipal Council chairman Victor Volkov and two public associations from the Gagauz Autonomy on Thursday, March 5, announced their support for the Social Democratic Party (PSD) in the upcoming parliamentary elections. “The parliamentary elections will determine in a crucial manner the prospects of Moldova and of Gagauzia as part of the country. The global crisis is the factor that should push us towards unity and solidarity with all the citizens of the Republic of Moldova in their endeavor for a better life”, said Volkov. “The solutions offered by PSD to fight the crisis are the concrete instruments we need to keep the old jobs and create new ones for the citizens of the country, including for those who are returning home from abroad”, added Irina Zelenskaya, the chairwoman of a public association called “Unity in the name of the future”. According to her, PSD is the only party capable of offering growth opportunities to the youth through social programs, and of ensuring equal educational opportunities. “The PSD's program provides for a normal relationship between the central administration and the Gagauz autonomy. We are very pleased that the party's program also provides for stronger relations with Russia and the CIS countries. These relations will surely boost Moldovan exports to the CIS markets”, said Nicolay Telpiz, the chairman of the Gagauz Congress public association. To attract the voters into discussions on the anti-crisis measures, the PSD has launched an on-line forum at www.anticriza.md. Earlier, a number of important figures in the Gagauz autonomy in southern Moldova threw their support behind PSD, among them the head of the Gaguz legislative body, Anna Harlamenko, and Mayor Nicolay Dudoglo of Comrat.
