A new attempt by the MPs of Șor Party to designate a member to the Central Election Commission failed. The MPs proposed Iulian Balan, who is one of the lawyers for Ilan Șor. Only three MPs of Șor Party voted in favor of the candidate, IPN reports.

In the question and answer session, the candidate was asked about his activity as lawyer for Ilan Șor and if he considers he can serve as a CEC member while having such a capacity. Iulian Balan replied that under the law on advocacy, the lawyers cannot be associated with their clients.

The candidate wasn’t accepted either by the Parliament’s legal commission for appointments and immunities. This is the second attempt by Șor Party to have its candidate confirmed as CEC member. Earlier, the MPs rejected Vadim Banaru.

The CEC members are named by Parliament by a majority of votes. Of the nine members, one is nominated by the President, while eight by the parliamentary groups, proportionally to the number of held seats.

Pavel Postica is the CEC member assigned by the President. PAS delegated Alexandru Berlinschii, Angelica Caraman, Sergiu Gurduza, Ludmila Lupașco and Alexandru Musteața, while BCS – Lilian Enciu and Vasile Postolache. One post of CEC member is vacant.
