About 1500 children from 14 districts will now go to school by new buses. The vehicles have been distributed to the heads of local education departments today, December 23, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The 15 buses are yellow and have 30 seats. They will be sent in Briceni, Cantemir, Calarasi, Drochia, Dubasari, Edinet, Glodeni, Hancesti, Leova, Nisporeni, Soroca, Telenesti, Falesti and Ialoveni districts. Dubasari will receive one more bus for Mihai Eminescu Lyceum, where children from Cocieri learn.
The minister of education Leonid Bujor said that today’s event had been long expected by pupils, parents and teachers. When distributing the buses, authorities considered the distance children had to go to school and the state of local roads.
According to the minister, another 43-45 buses will be bought next year. The first 25 will be sent in villages by May. Overall, the ministry has received 132 requests for transport units from local education departments, school principals and mayors.
Ghenadie Donos, head of Soroca’s education department, said that children used to go by a district bus, which was old and slow.
“It’s a great joy both for the lyceum and its pupils. Till now, children had difficulties reaching the school and we really needed this bus. We already rent two, but his one will do as it has more seats” said Ion Popusoi, principal of Mihai Eminescu Lyceum retreated in Dubasari.
Andrei Cibotaru, chief of the education department in Calarasi, said that the bus will bring to school and take home about 100 children. So far, they used a private bus.
The vehicles have been bought within “Quality education in the rural environment of Moldova”. Previously, 10 buses were offered to Rascani and Causeni districts. The World Bank allotted $2 million and the Ministry of Education 12 million lei for the 45 buses to be bought next year.
