A new round of negotiations between representatives of the Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM), the Democratic Party (PDM), the Liberal Party (PL) and the European People’s Party (PPEM) ended with no results. According to the acting leader of the PLDM Valeriu Strelet, they asked their colleagues from the former alliance to meet again before a new meeting of the party’s National Political Council that is to pronounce on the mandate of the group of negotiators on behalf of the PLDM, IPN reports.

“We presented the three objectives that the Council mandated us earlier to put forward and we received no answer. A common opinion seems to be shaped by these parties that declared their intention to form a parliamentary majority. They are against naming a politically unaffiliated person as Premier, but nobody says this openly. They seem to agree with the zero variant so that the parties start the discussions from zero, but say that these will depend on how the Prime Minister is – politically affiliated or not. They seem to agree with the plan of action for re-forming the entities controlled by Parliament, but in discussions it turns out that their views are different,” stated Strelet.

He announced that the PLDM’s National Political Council will meet again to specify the mandate of the group of negotiators, which can be maintained in the previous form or extended. “It is evident that we must maintain the objective of fundamental re-forming of the political system. Now that we reached such a situation, we must use this crisis as an opportunity for offering new solutions. If the mandate of the negotiators is wider, the objective of the PLDM will anyway remain for the political class to change its attitude and methods and for the institutions to be freed from party dependence,” said the former Premier, adding it’s not excluded that the PLDM could shift to the opposition and would not take part in consultations. The date when the Council will meet is to be set by the Political Bureau the coming days

According to the PL’s deputy head Valeriu Munteanu, swift negotiations should be held to quickly form a government. “The colleagues from the PLDM are limited in their acts by particular conditions and preconditions, even if these are called in a different way. This party’s National Political Council is to convene again to offer them more power in the discussions and negotiations. We are waiting for this to happen,” he said, noting that the PL is ready to form the new government this week.

“We are ready to accept anything that will help Moldova to swifter overcome this difficult situation.”

The president of honor of the PDM Dumitru Diacov told the press that the Democrats want a government to be formed as faster as possible, before the New Year. “We are somehow dependent on the PLDM’s Political Council and our colleagues, who must have a clear mandate for talks,” he stated.

The new round of talks between the PDM, PLDM, PL and the PPEM held on December 5 ended close to midnight.
