New facts became known about the Moldovan judo players who now represent the United Arab Emirates. It turned out that the secretary general of the Moldovan Judo Federation Dumitru Esanu is to blame for their leaving. In a meeting of the Federation on May 2, he admitted that he falsified the signature of the Federation’s chairman Veaceslav Manolachi on the document that enabled the Moldovan judokas to represent another country, IPN reports.
“I did it consciously when I gave this document to the sportsmen. Now I may regret it, or may not,” said Dumitru Esanu, who was dismissed from the post of secretary general. His place was taken by Mihai Tacu.
Acting Minister of Youth and Sport Octavian Ticu has another opinion on this case. “This is a show orchestrated by Veaceslav Manolachi. He acted similarly in other circumstances,” he stated.
The row broke out at the start of this year, when a number of athletes left the country. Three of them chose to play for the United Arab Emirates. Sergiu Toma, Ion Remarenko and Victor Skvortsov represented this state at the Asian Championship.
