The Government of Romania in its September 21 meeting amended and supplemented the legal framework concerning the regaining of Romanian nationality by minor children of foreign or stateless persons, IPN reports.
Under the changes, the application for regaining Romanian nationality by minors will be submitted together with the patents’ application for regaining Romanian nationality. When the application is submitted, the minor children must have the domicile in Romania. The minors who will regain the Romanian nationality together with the parents or one of them will be issued nationality certificates that will be different from those of the parents. Earlier, the minors who regained Romanian nationality together with the parents or one of them were written in the parents’ nationality certificate.
The approved regulations also apply to persons who, by court decisions, had their civil status documents, the references about the regaining of Romanian nationality, Romanian identity papers or travel documents annulled at the age of 18 for the reason that they didn’t regain Romanian nationality because the required procedure wasn’t performed at the competent authority together with the parents who regained Romanian nationality.
The new regulations were adopted by an emergency order and take effect immediately. They are designed to eliminate aspects that generated divergent interpretations among the competent authorities, followed by court disputes that were solved or are ongoing.
