New reconditioned trolleybus unveiled in Chisinau

A new trolley, reconditioned by the Chisinau Trolleybus Company, was presented in Chisinau on Monday. It will run on route 22, Info-Prim Neo reports. The general manager of the Trolley Company, Gheorghe Morgoci, has said the outfitting was performed during one month, and they changed even the exterior. They installed new doors, as the chairs were jacketed with smooth cloth. According to the manager, the trolley may serve as long as 6-7years. The real exploitation term of a new trolley is 10-15 years. As for the power consumption, the reconditioned trolleys are more economical, Gheorghe Morgoci says. “Obviously the Chisinau folks deserve new trolleys, but, since we don't have money, we had to re-equip. Compared with those 50 reconditioned trolleys, this car is more modern and more comfortable,” he said. It took 18-20 thousand euros to re-equip the trolley, while the price of a new one is 7 times higher. Till the end of the year, the municipal enterprise plans to re-equip 30-35 units more, in case the Municipal Council passes a decision in this respect. In 2006, the Council passed a law providing for buying 100 trolleys within 5 years, by 20 a year. “In 2006, we bought 20 trolleys, none in 2007, and none in 2008, because of the austere budget,” the manager says. “We have to see how good is this initiative. It can turn out once again that one can do big things with small means,” mayor Dorin Chirtoaca has said, asking the trolley company to come up with a draft decision for the Municipal Council.
