The energy-related products that will be placed on the market will be mandatorily accompanied by a label indicating the consumption of energy. Such a provision is contained in a bill to amend and supplement a number of regulations concerning the sale of washing machines, fridges and TV sets, which was approved by the Cabinet, IPN reports.

The bill specifies the form and content of the label and where it should be placed. The bill authors said the consumption of energy by domestic appliances increases given the technological progress and the greater supply of such devices. This is a problem for most of the European countries, including Moldova, which imports 95% of the energy resources.

It is expected that the consumption of domestic appliances in 2020 will be twice larger than in 2009, while carbon emissions will grow.

Directive 2010/30/EU of the European Parliament and of the Council on the indication by labeling and standard product information of the consumption of energy and other resources by energy-related products recommends the consumers to purchase domestic appliances with low consumption of energy. These are more expensive, but their efficiency is reflected in the value of electricity bills. For example, the refrigerators and washing machines of class A+++ consume by over 30% less power than those of class A.

The Ministry of Economy, which drafted the bill, calls on the producers and importers to supply electrical applies of a high quality and with low consumption of energy.

The amendments and supplements will take effect in three months of their publication in the Official Gazette.
