The new Prosecutor General Alexandr Stoianoglo has no other option than to seek the revision of the politically motivated cases and the bank fraud case. Such an opinion is shared by a number of lawyers, IPN reports.

Lawyer Valeriu Pleșca said the cases that were tried with serious procedural violations should be retried, while those that haven’t yet reached the court should be investigated by an independent prosecutor. “Otherwise, Alexandr Stoianoglo would join the group of prosecutors who, for example, in the case of the bank fraud hushed up this case for five years and actually found no money of the stolen funds. His initial steps are welcome,” the lawyer stated in the talk show “Natalia Morari’s Politics” on TV8 channel.

Lawyer Eduard Rudenko considers those who started politically motivated cases should close them. The prosecutors know very well which cases are political in character. These cases can be classed into three groups. “There are cases under investigation, cases pending in court and cases in which the courts already passed judgments. If we speak about those that are being investigated, very simple decisions can be taken in them by the prosecutor who handles the case. This knows how the case was started and if evidence was falsified,” stated Eduard Rudenko.

Lawyer Anatol Istrate said the intrigues between the prosecutor general and the suspended chief of the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office undermine the authority of the prosecution service. Alexandr Stoianoglo will yet have efficient cooperation with the Prosecutor General’s Officer. “The prosecutor general can assert himself in the criminal cases under investigation, as regards the resonant political cases, business appropriation cases and cases pending in court,” he stated, noting the cases with irrevocable sentences could not be reviewed until the guilt of prosecutors as regards the starting of criminal cases is not proven.
