A new party called “United Moldova” will run alone for the parliamentary elections next spring, hoping to pass over the electoral threshold of 6%. They say that's because they receive some 30-40 new applications to be joined. The party also wants to set up a so-called “National Salvation Committee” to be joined by other parties, “capable to trigger the progressist development of the country,” said the leader of the party Ana Tcaci. She decided to call a news conference “given the catastrophic social-economic situation of the country,” Info-Prim Neo reports. The party has been created on the basis of the “Femeia Moldovei” (Moldova's Woman) Movement. Ana Tcaci read out a statement titled “Moldova is on the verge of a social-economic catastrophe”, pointing out that Moldova's external debts stand at $3 billion, the volume of imports exceeds the exports three times, Moldova imports 80 % of fruit and vegetables, as the budget keeps on customs taxes and huge taxes levied from companies. “Instead of assessing the situation in the social-economic sphere, the government speculates with compared indexes, striving to create the illusion of welfare and progress,” they say. “United Moldova” was registered in February 2006 and its leaders say they would have over 7,000 members.
