Only 60 parking places of the necessary 240 are now available near the shopping center UNIC. The short- and medium-term development plans of the owner include the creation of parking places by building also an underground car park.

“We will create these parking places without affecting the square in front of the shopping center. Only a part of these places will be set up under the square,” Leonid Sidorov, director general of the Central Universal Store UNIC, stated in a press briefing hosted by IPN.

Vitalie Malachi, a member of the Administration Board, said the shopping center will be modernized in two stages. The first stage included the revamping of the square and restoration of the façade. The second stage that will be implemented during the next three-four years will consist of the building of the underground car park. This will enable to create 150 more parking places and to develop an underground parking lot behind the store.

The square will be built together with the underground parking lot, according to all the European standards.  It will be greened and will include a fountain and rest areas.

According to the managers, emphasis is placed not only on the modernization of the shopping center and the adjoining area, but also on socioeconomic aspects as they perfectly realize the role they play in this regard.

Since 2016 until 2021, the Central Universal Store UNIC paid taxes totaling 81.2 million lei, with over 640,000 lei of this sum constituting the land tax.

A number of 327 companies, including national and international brands, now rent areas in the center and each of these creates jobs and contributes to supplementing the state budget by the taxes they pay.

The modernization plans include the attraction of new famous brands. Five of these already announced their intentions to rent areas in the store.
