The new governor of the National Bank of Moldova Sergiu Cioclea started work on April 11. This was presented to the team by Speaker of Parliament Andrian Candu and ex-governor Dorin Dragutanu, IPN reports.

Andrian Candu said that Dorin Dragutanu was named to post in a not at all easy period. He thanked this for managing to cope with all kinds of influences. “Sergiu Cioclea also takes up in not the best times for the country’s economy. But I’m sure that he will cope owing to his qualifications. I think the National Bank of Moldova needs professional management. I’m sure that he will succeed,” stated the Speaker.

Dorin Dragutanu noted that the method of selecting candidates, the discussions in Parliament and the transfer of duties from the old governor to the new one represent a success. “I had a month since Parliament took that decision to discuss key and pressing issues and the major developments at the National Bank with the new governor,” said the ex-governor.

Sergiu Cioclea said he always had great respect for the National Bank of Moldova and considered it an institution where devoted persons who are real professionals work. “I will make effort to meet with most of the employees as soon as possible so as to agree what we have to do. The interest of the mass media represents probably the major attention of society. I know that it will be hard, but I’m sure that we will achieve good results,” stated the new governor.

In the same event, it was announced that this week Moldova’s delegation will go to Washington to take part in the spring session of the IMF. A number of meetings with the administration of the IMF and the World Bank wil take place there.

Sergiu Cioclea was appointed by Parliament on March 11, being selected by a commission out of nine candidates.
