The new mayor of Balti municipality Nicolae Grigorishin requested Prime Minister Pavel Filip to help them overcome the waste problem in the municipality. The Premier met with Grigorishin within a visit paid to Balti and assured him that the central authorities are ready to intervene, IPN reports.

“We will analyze things and will definitely intervene, as we did every time, either when it was about Chisinau, when an extraordinary crisis was witnessed, but we found solutions, or about Balti, where we intervened last winter. This time we will also help where it is possible and where it is the remit of the central authorities,” stated Pavel Filip.

According to the Premier, waste management remains a problem in Moldova because there is no clear strategy in the field. The Ministry of Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment is examining the situation and is to propose a new approach in this regard.

Owing to a debt of over 2.3 million lei owed by the Balti mayor’s office, the manager banned access to the waste dump. The functionaries say they do not have money to pay this debt.
