The leader of the Socialist parliamentary group Corneliu Furculiță in the legislature’s sitting announced the formation of a parliamentary majority, without saying who will form part of this. He invited President Maia Sandu to consultations with the parliamentary majority, IPN reports.
At the start of the sitting, Corneliu Furculiță made reference to the Constitutional Court’s judgment of February 23, which says that the parliamentary groups and the President must hold new consultations so as to identify political support for a particular candidate able to form a Government that will enjoy the Parliament’s support.
“The President and the MPs must have a constitutionally loyal behavior and show mutual respect so as to ensure essential cooperation in the process of investing a new Government,” said the leader of the Socialist parliamentary group.
President Sandu is invited to consultations with the parliamentary majority at 12 noon, either in the Presidential Palace or in the Parliament Building, as the President will decide.
After the negotiations held with the parliamentary groups on March 16, President Maia Sandu said that she took note of Mariana Durleșteanu’s decision to withdraw her candidacy for premiership and, as there is no candidate supported by a formalized parliamentary majority at present, she decided to propose PAS president Igor Grosu for Prime Minister. On March 17, the Party of Socialists challenged the presidential decree in the Constitutional Court and announced that they would present another candidate for Premier on March 18.
