New loans granted in July 17.6% down

New loans granted by banks in July of this year decreased by 17.6 percent compared to July 2021, totaling 3.637 billion lei, the National Bank reported.

53.1 percent represent loans in the national currency, 44.4 percent loans in foreign currency, and 2.4 percent are loans tied to the currency exchange rate. The most popular were loans maturing in 2 to 5 years, or 58.3 percent of the total. By value, they accounted for 45.5 of the total.

The average nominal rate for new loans granted in the national currency was 12.79 percent, for those in foreign currency 4.27 percent, and for those tied to the currency rate 4.37 percent. Compared to the previous month, the average rate on loans in the national currency increased by 1.45 points, on loans in foreign currency it increased by 0.23 points, on loans tied to the currency rate it decreased by 0.18 points.

Consumer loans had the largest share (69 percent) and were granted at an average rate of 15.48 percent.

The average rate on real estate loans granted in the national currency increased by 1.72 points compared to the previous month and by 4.98 points compared to July 2021, and constituted 11.65 percent. 81.1 percent of all real estate loans were granted in the national currency.

New term deposits attracted in July amounted to 3.565 billion lei, up by 40.8 percent compared to July 2021. New deposits attracted were mainly represented by individual deposits, with a share of 74.22 percent. The largest share went to deposits with terms from 6 to 12 months. The average rate for new term deposits in the national currency was 10.21 percent, and for those in foreign currency 0.44 percent. Compared to the previous month, the average rate on new term deposits in national currency increased by 0.67 point, on new term deposits in foreign currency the average rate remained the same as the previous month.
