The new law on the prosecution service and the amendments to the Constitution will be adopted by the end of May. The announcement was made by Deputy Speaker Andrian Candu, who heads the working group on the reform of the prosecution service, in a meeting of the National Council for the Reform of the Law Enforcement Bodies, IPN reports.
Andrian Candu said the reformation strategy was worked out and will be submitted to Parliament this week. He called on the Council members and the representatives of civil society to formulate recommendations and proposals over the justice sector reform and to present them to the Parliament’s legal commission for appointments and immunities for consideration.
The Council approved a decision by which the legislative body is recommended to adopt the bill on the disciplinary punishment of judges, taking into account the opinion of the Venice Commission. The Council encourages the implementation of the new legal provisions on the testing of professional integrity, extended confiscation and illegal enrichment and the polygraph testing of the candidates for the posts of judge and prosecutors as corruption prevention and combating measures. It also proposed conducting an information campaign, with the support of the development partners, on the results achieved within the justice sector reform.
The working group on the reform of the prosecution service was set up in December 2013.
