Over 5,000 laptop computers will reach 903 general education institutions across the country. The equipment was purchased as part of the Moldova Education Reform Project (MERP), implemented by the Ministry of Education and Research with World Bank funding.

The laptops will be used in the educational process and will replace outdated equipment in primary schools, middle schools and high schools.

In selecting the beneficiary institutions, the number of students and the “units of new technology per student” ratio were taken into account. The number of laptops to be distributed ranges from 3 to 24 per school.

“Through this endowment, we are modernizing the computing technology in schools. I am sure that access to modern equipment will allow teachers to organize much more interactive lessons and students will have access to more learning and information resources. We will continue to invest in equipping and modernizing schools to ensure optimal conditions for learning and activity”, said Minister of Education and Research Dan Perciun, as quoted in a press release.

Earlier this year, the Ministry of Education and Research offered schools 1,480 laptops (with the support of the MERP and UNICEF project), 340 desktop computers (donated by Korea) and 2,174 tablets (South Korea, China, Israel).

As of August 1, the general education institutions in the country had 49,250 units of computer technology.

As part of the “Improving the Quality of Education Project”, approved by the Government in June 2023, through the grant offered by the Global Partnership for Education, a total 4.8 million dollars will be allocated for modernizing infrastructure, for the digital transformation of learning environments in approximately 200 schools, and also for improving digital skills among teaching staff, among other purposes.
