Judge Lidia Bulgac of the Chisinau Court of Appeals has been promoted as the tribunal’s chairwoman, as decided on Tuesday by the High Council of the Judiciary (CSM), IPN reports.
Lidia Bulgac will act as caretaker until the winner of a contest announced by the CSM two weeks ago is selected.
Before Lidia Bulgac, the interim position was briefly held by judge Anatolie Pahopol, after Ion Pleșca’s term in office expired on July 20. Pleșca was appointed in 2011 by then Acting President Marian Lupu, and was able to secure a second 4-year term in July 2015 under President Nicolae Timofti.
At the same meeting, the CSM appointed Igor Botezatu as chairman of Comrat Court and Vadim Belous as chairman of Soroca Court, with a 4-year mandate for both.
