New identity cards could be requested at birth of child

The new identity cards that will become available at the beginning of April will be issued to citizens of the Republic of Moldova who reached the age of 14. At the request of the legal representative, the document can be issued even before the age of 14, IPN reports.

The period of validity of the identity cards will be different, depending on the age of the holder. The identity cards for children up to 7 years old will have a period of validity of 4 years.

For those aged between 7 and 14 years, the period of validity will be 7 years, and the card for people aged between 14 and 70 years will be valid for 10 years.

After the age of 70, the period of validity is unlimited.

From the beginning of April, citizens can apply for a new, European-type identity card. The first million identity cards will be issued free of charge to citizens who will apply for the document that will be provided within 20 working days. The decision was approved by the Cabinet.

The identity cards in circulation could be used until their period of validity expires.
