A new hearing in the case of the former president of the Administration Board of Banca Ilan Shor set for April 13 didn’t take place. The Cahul Appeals Court said the hearing was put off because the lawyers for the defendant were absent. For its part, the Shor Party said Ilan Shor’s lawyers called the police to the court of law given the illegalities committed in a chain in the case fabricated against the party’s leader, IPN reports.
The Cahul Appeals Court on its website said that as the defense was absent, it was impossible to continua the examination of the case. Therefore, the hearing was transferred to April 15, 9am.
The Shor Party reacted, saying the lawyers asked the police to intervene because the court didn’t take into account the norms imposed by the authorities in connection with the state of emergency and this could not provide information about how the request to replace a judge was distributed.
“The hearing was held with deviations from the very beginning and the lawyers warned about the violation of the sanitary restrictions and the norms related to the state of emergency. The defense asked to replace a judge, but the request was rejected. When they asked for information about the distribution of the application, it turned out that the distribution file didn’t exist. This shows the application wasn’t distributed at random, but was transmitted to a particular judge,” the party said in a press release. The party noted the court rejected the lawyer’s request to raise the exception of unconstitutionality of some of the articles of the Penal Procedure Code, which is an unprecedented wrongdoing, according to it.
In June 2017, Ilan Shor was sentenced to seven years and a half in jail for causing considerable damage to the state by swindle and abuse of power. The sentence was challenged. In June 2019, Ilan Shor disappeared from the public sphere and the prosecutors instituted criminal proceedings against him for illegally fleeing the country. On August 15, 2019, Ilan Shor was deprived of parliamentary immunity.
