The hearing in the case of conviction of the former president of the Administration Board of Banca de Economii, Ilan Shor, which was set for September 2, was put off  until September 7, IPN reports.

The court said the hearing was postponed because the work program of the Cahul Appeals Court expired. The next hearing was scheduled for September 7, starting at 10:30am.

The Buiucani branch of the Chisinau City Court on June 21, 2017 sentenced Ilan Shor to seven years and a half in jail for causing considerable damage to the state by swindle and abuse of trust. The same day, Ilan Shor was released from house arrest and will be under judicial control until a definitive sentence is given to him.

The sentence of the first court was appealed by the prosecution and the defense and by the representative of SA Banca de Economii. The case reached the Chisinau Appeals Court in only six months and in February 2018 was transferred to the Cahul Appeals Court.

In June 2019, immediately after the PDM conceded power, Ilan Shor disappeared from the public sphere. A criminal case over illegal leaving of the country was started against him. On August 15, 2019, Ilan Shor was deprived of parliamentary immunity.

Answering journalists’ questions, Prosecutor General Alexandr Stoianoglo in a news conference said the PGO asked Israel to extradite Ilan Shor, but the Israeli authorities do not extradite the own citizens.
